John F. Anderson, MD, FACS

John Anderson, MD, FACS has over 25 years’ experience in healthcare leadership and governance roles in several of the country’s leading healthcare systems. He was educated at Baylor University (1971), Baylor College of Medicine (1973), and then trained as a general surgeon at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas (1973- 1978). After completing a year of vascular surgery fellowship training at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis under surgical pioneer Ed Garrett, he returned to Dallas where he began practice at Baylor in 1979 and did so continually until 2004 when he moved to Denver.

In 1994, Dr. Anderson began a ten-year administrative career as Chief Medical Officer at Baylor University Medical Center followed by a similar role with Catholic Health Initiatives in Denver (2004-2008). Since that time he has worked as a healthcare consultant focusing on strategy, physician engagement, and population health. Along the way, he has developed a keen interest in healthcare governance and since 1999 has served on leading boards such as Catholic Health Initiatives, Aurora Healthcare, and most recently Baylor College of Medicine and the Baylor CHI St Luke’s Medical Center in the Texas Medical Center Houston. He was a founding member of the Health Management Academy’s CMO Forum and has served in various advisory and coaching capacities during his lengthy and ongoing career.

Currently, he and his wife, Rachel, reside in Waco, Texas where he serves on the Board of the Robbins Institute for Health Policy and Research at Baylor University, as well as the Diana Garland School of Social Work. He and his wife Rachel have four adult children, seven grandchildren, and a great dog named Lucy, and they share time between Texas and Colorado with family and friends.
