Smart Strategies for Healthcare Leaders

Administrators at one hospital faced a pending physician exodus and the possibility of a 40% revenue loss — significant challenges for incoming CEO Matt Troup. Committed to building a true partnership with physicians, Troup called on MEDI Leadership to guide that transformation. Here’s Troup and his team on how they reversed physician dissent and replaced distrust with a thriving partnership.

My health system was one of the first to employ MEDI Leadership’s Physician Leadership Academy method. We wanted to build a physician-led culture for our employed, multi-specialty medical group. The design was customized to our business needs and identified high-potential leaders within the first cohort. Those physicians became the leaders of the self-governance model that emerged over the next few months. In subsequent years, we repeated the PLA, incorporating both employed and independent members of the medical staff. We were able to track significant improvements in quality and length of stay that originated in initiatives that came from PLA project teams.
